Simplify Your Homepage Text
We suggest reviewing your homepage and streamlining your homepage text, particularly if you may have added extra text in the past just for the SEO benefit.
Five-to-ten years ago, many web marketing advisors (ourselves included) recommended more verbose homepage text as part of an effective SEO strategy. Over time, search engines have changed the way they evaluate websites, and today, a text-heavy homepage will likely not give you an SEO bump.
While there’s no hard and fast rule for the amount of text you should include, if you view your homepage on a mobile device and find the amount of information overwhelming, this is a good sign your homepage needs editing!
As search engine algorithms become more sophisticated, SEO is more and more about optimizing your site for user experience. Website content that was created for search engines and doesn’t provide a specific benefit for users should be reworked or removed.
