The Latest: Google Search Algorithm Change

Have you noticed a recent downward trend in your Google traffic? If so, you're not alone, as Google enacted an algorithm change at the end of May, on a day which the industry termed "Mayday."

What exactly did Google change? Well, they're of course not telling all but did say that the change was made in order to allow for "...higher quality sites to surface for long tail queries."

What does this mean to the average site owner? It means that a site's item-level pages (those which are most usually found via longer tail queries) may not be appearing as high as they used to.

A tip to help get some of that traffic back - Make a list of queries for which your site now is getting less traffic, place these terms into a Google search and check out the results to see what pages are ranking high. Take a look at these pages to see what kind of content/keywords you might be missing out on, and re-optimize where necessary.

As always, Google is rewarding high quality content; but now more than ever is a good time to review your site to ensure your rankings are safe!
